David Huckfelt (of The Pines)/ Michael Rossetto with Seth Wenger
August 11 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
A cosmic folk duo with deep Midwestern roots and a keen ear for the dark & other-wordly in American song, David Huckfelt of The Pines & Michael Rossetto have been making music together for more than a decade. Touring extensively with The Pines & other projects including Pieta Brown, Erik Koskinen, Frankie Lee & more, this rare duo performance highlights Rossetto’s distinctive 5-string banjo & electric guitar style and Huckfelt’s lyrically rich song-craft and easy grasp on blues, folk and country traditions. Not to be missed…
Opening the evening…. Seth Wenger
For much of his childhood in rural southeast Iowa, Seth Wenger was isolated by his immersion in the Mennonite a cappella tradition. As a teenager, that isolation was punctured by his introduction to the secular Iowa Folk/Americana scene of the early 90s. Recently, as an artist-in-residence at Scattergood Friends School and an Iowa Arts Council grant recipient, Wenger has been able to further explore a songwriting and song interpretation ethos that’s deeply rooted in an examination of community, space, and place. Of his work this year, Wenger says, “I’ve been singing a lot of Sacred Harp music, but whether it comes through the Hollow Square, a community choir, Mexican bandas, a familiar living room, country churches, a city basement, Gypsy siguiriyas, or an art house stage, sharing music with people is a sacred practice, and I want to bring everyone along for the ride.”
