ABOUT:
Raised on Bible hymns by her preacher father, Dead Horses frontwoman Sarah Vos’ backstory sounds more like that of an old bluesman from the Mississippi Delta than a young folk singer from Wisconsin. But despite their youth, the Milwaukee based folk trio has crafted a timeless sound, informed as much by modern folk as it is by the classics. Vos’ gospel, living free and unapologetically, is supported with conviction by Peter Raboin on acoustic guitar and Daniel Wolff on double bass.
Following the release of their second album ‘Space and Time’ in 2014, Dead Horses have been touring tirelessly across the country, playing shows with Brooklyn folksters Swear & Shake, Wisconsin troubadour Cory Chisel as well as newgrassers The Infamous Stringdusters. A sound that is equally masterful and heartfelt, “Space and Time” received accolades at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee’s 2014 award ceremony and earned the band an invitation to record their next album with Wilco and Uncle Tupelo drummer, Ken Coomer, in Nashville this winter.
“Beautifully raw and unabashedly authentic…the immediate appeal of Dead Horses is Sarah Vos’ biting, sultry vocals and neatly-crafted songs supported with conviction by the fastest pickers in town.” – George Halas, SCENE Newspaper
“…the amazing old soul voice of Sarah Vos, evocative of First Aid Kit’s Klara Soderberg.” -91.7 WSUM FM
“Dead Horses has taken an artistic step forward since their accomplished 2014 full-length ‘Space and Time,’ released last fall. And if there’s more where that came from, the band will find plenty of golden opportunities in the Milwaukee music scene.”
-Piet Levy of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
“Dead Horses has a sound equally beautiful and effortless.” -Stephanie Elkins, “Simply Folk” Wisconsin Public Radio
